FIXTURE.C.K. utd. V Gallen united combined counties cup tie
The fixture and venue that brought Gallen back to playing opposition that was reminiscent of our previous status in the highest division. But all was not well. Putchaun a pitch now in ruin C.K. a team now struggling and Gallen now struggling title contenders in our respective division .This encounter should have been the clash of the season , but the match off failed to fulfill. Game on and with Gallen having side lined the veterans that aided in the miracle that was victory over Mullingar ath. only two weeks ago . Now Gallen fielded, what to be fair, was an almost full strenght panel of
16 of the finest Gallen players we have produced in recent years and we failed to full fill.Early encounters on the pitch of horrors saw what was possible the sloppiest brand of ball played by either team in years with only a few exceptions. Them being Gallen's back four and not to forget the opposition's center half and right full , the game seemed to be literally up in the air as both sides unwilling to concede in this encounter HOOFED the ball into the air in Tullamore to the sound of the national anthem being played in O'Connor park . This was the hardest game the faith full have had inflicted on them all season in more was than one . Kenny with 5 goals in the last 2 games was apparently hurled out ! as always willing to work and run but Ciaran just lacked that spark that we have grown to love in Gallen, maybe we , no sorry I have started to expect to much from the goal machine that is C.Kenny. That aside Kenny did as always work his ass off and had the only shot on target in the first half for either side. Gallen's back four were resolute in their defence of the score line that failed to flatter either side.Killian at the back was an example of what teams can be built on with Butler, Phibbs & Buckley forming the back four that gave it their all keeping the score line to 0-0 at half time. No blame can really be lay ed in the middle either as Carroll , Conroy ,Cassidy & Daly worked hard all day. Really and truly blame for the poor match can only rest on the day it's self as neither side preformed well nor badly but this encounter failed to raise the expectations of the attending small crowd. C.K introduced Francie up front and to be fair the only spark that this game had was from that moment on . Even with the best efforts of Deck Nugent in goals , who pulled off saves that any premiership team would be proud of, and the by now tiring back four. Francie struck as Nugent spilled a screamer only to knock the ball to the in rushing CK. man who struck the ball to the Gallen net.1-0 CK but as Gallen threw caution to the wind and gambled pushing four up and two at the back we got free's , corners and the benefit of the doubt but the veteran keeper that is B.Bracken in the CK goal was rarely worried as they ran out victors 1-0. Clonmore fell fowl to an Arlington whopping 4-0 as the title now looks shaky ,but promotion now lie's solely in our own hand's.
